So today saw us say goodbye to the first country, the amazing Cambodia. So what have we learnt along the way? Well here are our top tips!
1. If travelling overland from Bangkok into Cambodia, whatever you don't book the full journey. We ended rescuing a very nice Brit who was stranded in the Cambodia bus station waiting for what we suspect was a non-existent bus!
2. In Siem Reap, we'd definitely recommend the Golden Banana B&B. B&B prices but you get to use the pool of the Golden Banana Hotel next door! Plus staff very friendly and helpful with good links to tour companies etc.
3. We thought it definitely worth while paying a bit more to get a guide to take you around Angkor Wat - can't imagine you'd learn half as much without one (although the German lady in our hotel had been studying for years prior to her trip!). Our guide also gave us more info than just on the temples
we tried local fruits growing wild and were shown the exact spot where Angelina Jolie got changed whilst filming Tomb Raider!!
4. If in doubt, support Wales in the Six Nations. We met a great group of people just because one of them (plus Graeme) were nagging the bar to put the Welsh rugby match on instead of stupid football.
5. Many of you will know this already, but ALWAYS bargain with tuk-tuk drivers. Partly because you save money but also for that lovely smug feeling you get knowing the people who left the bar just before you did paid double!
6. Don't always trust Lonely Plant - thankfully our very nice tuk-tuk driver knew that S-21 didn't close for lunch even though the trusted LP said it did.
7. Where guided tours aren't available at tourist attractions, make friends with little old ladies and then just tag along with their tour guide listening in. Not that Graeme did this of course, it's just an idea!
8. Come to Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon
only been here a few hours but it seems like a slightly crazy but great city.
