After feeling so pampered at Annie's cousin's house in KL, followed by 5 nights in a beautiful hotel in Langkawi with Graeme's parents, it has been a bit of a rude awakening going back to backpacking again!
Fortunately we were able to stay in a fascinating hotel in Penang - the Cheong Fatt Tse Mansion which has been painstakingly restored to it's original 1890's splendour (with the added benefits of air-con, luckily) and provided a very welcoming and peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of Georgetown. A night bus across to the East Coast of Malaysia quickly dealt with any relaxation or calm that we were suffering from, but the trip was well worth it once we arrived on the sandy beaches of the Pehentian Islands the following morning.
